The brand pages carry each company's own account of its name, in characters, pinyin and plain English. Where a name is a transliteration with no literal meaning, the page says so rather than inventing one.
Why is the pinyin written with tone marks?
Because without them it is not the name. Pinyin without tones collapses different words onto the same spelling, so every name here carries its marks and a plain English hint at the sound beside them.
Are these translations?
They are literal glosses of what the characters say, not marketing translations. A brand's own English name is in the first column; the meaning column says what the Chinese characters mean.
