Volvo Cars XC60: range, price, specs and where it is sold
Facts checked
The XC60 is Volvo's best-selling model, a mid-size SUV on the SPA architecture that has been in its second generation since March 2017. It is sold as a mild-hybrid petrol or, in the United States and China, only as the T8 plug-in hybrid: 455 hp (about 339 kW), 35 miles of EPA electric range in the US and 90 km of CLTC electric range in China.
The XC60 is built on two continents and is one of the clearest examples of Volvo's practice of building the same model in Europe and in China. Volvo announced on 9 November 2014 that XC60 production had started at its Chengdu plant, the second model built there after the S60L, adding 500 jobs and taking the plant to about 2,650 employees on an annual capacity of 120,000 cars. Torslanda in Sweden builds the XC60 for Europe, and Wikipedia additionally records assembly at Bengaluru in India and Shah Alam in Malaysia. Volvo has not published a market-by-market split of which plant supplies which country. From late 2026 the XC60 will also be built in the United States: Volvo confirmed on 23 September 2025 that it is adding the model to the Ridgeville line in South Carolina alongside the EX90 and Polestar 3.
Euro NCAP awarded the second-generation XC60 five stars in 2017. ANCAP's five-star rating applies only to cars built before 1 January 2024; XC60s built since that date are shown on ANCAP's site as unrated.
