BYD Tang: range, price, specs and where it is sold
Facts checked
The Tang is BYD's large three-row SUV and one of the oldest nameplates still in the Dynasty series, on sale in China since June 2015. The first generation was a plug-in hybrid only; a second generation arrived in 2018 and added the battery-electric Tang EV, which uses a Blade battery of 86.4 or 108.8 kWh.
The Tang matters to the company's export history: Norway was BYD's first European passenger-car market, and the Tang EV was the car it entered with. The first hundred cars arrived in late July 2021 and deliveries began on 12 August 2021 at NOK 599,900; BYD delivered its thousandth Norwegian Tang about four months later. The car is still listed by BYD in Norway and Germany, is sold in Brazil under the spelling Tan, and is badged Sealion 8 in Vietnam.
In April 2025 BYD added the longer Tang L on a 1,000-volt architecture, and in June 2026 a separate, larger Da Tang EV. A third-generation Tang was shown in August 2026 with Blade packs of 88.7 and 105.8 kWh and CLTC ranges up to 850 km.
