Neta was the brand Hozon New Energy launched in 2018 with the N01, a small battery-electric crossover. It went after the cheapest end of the electric market and sold heavily to ride-hailing fleets, which took it to 152,073 registrations in 2022 — more than NIO, Xpeng or Li Auto managed that year — and made it, briefly, the best-selling of China's electric startups.
That position did not survive the price war. Sales fell to 127,496 in 2023 and 87,684 in 2024. Salaries went unpaid, layoffs began in November 2024, the chief executive left in December, and a US$600m funding round collapsed in March 2025. In July 2025 Reuters reported that Neta had booked at least 64,719 sales early between January 2023 and March 2024 by arranging insurance on cars before they were delivered — more than half of the 117,000 it reported for the period.
A creditor filed for bankruptcy review in May 2025 and the court confirmed the process in June. Hozon said in September 2025 that it had more than 400,000 owners and that the company had to keep operating for their sake; by then 1,631 creditors had filed RMB 5.1bn of claims, with the eventual total expected to exceed RMB 26bn.
The brand had built an unusually broad export network for its size — Thailand, where it opened an assembly plant in November 2023, plus Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Laos, Kenya, Mexico and Brazil. Overseas sales were nearly 30,000 in 2024. During the reorganisation these markets have been handled by local distributors, and Hozon has described the overseas business as one of its more attractive assets.

Production largely stopped in late 2024. Hozon New Energy's bankruptcy review was confirmed on 13 June 2025 and announced on 16 June 2025; Chinese reporting in January 2026 named Shanzi High-Tech as the sole declared intended restructuring investor, with a statutory deadline of 11 March 2026 for a restructuring plan. The outcome after that date could not be established from any source this record could verify.
