Fangchengbao is BYD's off-road and outdoor brand, announced on 9 June 2023. Its first car, the Bao 5, was shown on 16 August 2023, went into production that September and reached the market in November; BYD reported 10,000 orders in the first three days and 20,000 vehicles sold within six months.
The line-up splits into two families. The Bao models — Bao 5 and Bao 8 — are ladder-frame plug-in hybrids in the mould of a traditional off-roader. The Tai models, written 钛 and marketed as Titanium, are unibody: the Tai 3 compact battery-electric SUV and the Ti7 mid-size SUV. The Shark pickup also comes from this brand, though BYD sells it abroad under its own badge.
Export naming is inconsistent and worth knowing about. The Bao 5 and Bao 8 are sold outside China as the Denza B5 and B8. The Tai 7 has been shown for export as a BYD rather than a Denza, on the stated grounds that Denza is being positioned abroad as a ladder-frame off-road brand and the Tai 7 is not one. Fangchengbao itself is not marketed as a brand outside China.
Wholly owned by BYD. Several of its models are sold outside China under the Denza badge.
