The Omoda 5 is the car that carried Chery back into western Europe. It is a compact crossover on the T1X platform, 4,351 mm long on a 2,610 mm wheelbase, sold with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine of 108 kW, a self-charging hybrid, and as a battery-electric model badged E5.
Its names change more often than most. In China it launched as the Chery Omoda 5 and was folded back into the Chery range as the Tiggo 5x High Energy in late 2024. Australia sold it as the Omoda 5 from March 2023, then renamed it the Chery C5 and Chery E5 in May 2025. Malaysia moved it to Chery O5 in September 2025; Mexico, Russia and South Africa call it the Omoda C5; Brazil sells only the electric E5. Britain has kept the Omoda 5 name since August 2023.
Chery Australia quotes the electric E5 at 155 kW with 430 km of range on the WLTP cycle and 505 km on NEDC. Euro NCAP tested the car as the Chery OMODA5 1.6T in 2022 and awarded five stars, with 87 per cent for adult occupants, 87 per cent for child occupants, 68 per cent for vulnerable road users and 88 per cent for safety assist.
