The Polestar 5 is a four-door grand tourer and the first Polestar on the brand's own architecture rather than a Volvo or Geely platform. Polestar calls it the Polestar Performance Architecture: a bonded-aluminium body with an 800-volt electrical system and motors developed by Polestar R&D in Sweden, producing up to 650 kW (884 hp) and 1,015 Nm. It is an evolution of the Precept concept shown in 2020. Polestar quotes up to 421 miles (677 km) WLTP and a United Kingdom starting price of GBP 89,500.
Despite the European engineering, the car is Chinese-built. Polestar's 2025 annual report states that the Polestar 5 is manufactured at Geely's Wuhan plant, with component assembly at Geely's Chongqing plant, and that production started in January 2026. The report explains that the Chongqing plant was specified for the car's new aluminium body and chassis processes and holds LEED Gold certification; component build happens there and final assembly at Wuhan. Polestar quotes a cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of 23.8 tCO2e at launch.
The car is sold in Europe. Polestar's US site lists only the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, and in June 2026 the US Department of Commerce declined Polestar an authorisation under the Connected Vehicle Rule to sell vehicles in the United States from model year 2027 onwards.
