Ankai is a bus and coach maker in Hefei, Anhui, formally Anhui Ankai Automobile Co., Ltd. The company was founded on 22 July 1997 and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange days later under the code 000868.
JAC Group became its largest shareholder in 2003 with 28.12%, and agreed in June 2023 to raise that to about 41.61%. Ankai therefore sits inside the JAC group while remaining a separately listed company with its own shareholders.
The range covers coaches, city buses, school buses, sleeper coaches, chassis and specialist vehicles, with electric versions across most categories. The company describes itself as a state-level high-technology enterprise and holds a national research centre for electric bus system integration.
Ankai has exported for years. Documented deliveries include eleven double-deckers to the Big Bus Company in the United States in 2010 and 800 natural-gas buses to Mexico, alongside sales in South Africa, Israel and Uruguay. Its current export market list is not published in English, so this record does not attempt one.
JAC Group is the largest shareholder. It first took 28.12% in 2003 and agreed in June 2023 to buy a further 16.41%, taking the holding to about 41.61%. Ankai is separately listed in Shenzhen as 000868.
