Beijing is BAIC's own car brand, and the badge in its current form is recent. BAIC introduced a Beijing off-road sub-brand in 2019, moving the BJ40 onto it, and revived Beijing as the group's main passenger-car marque in 2020 after dropping the Senova name.
The off-roaders are the recognisable half of the brand. The BJ40 was shown as a concept at the 2010 Beijing show, went into production in 2013 and reached buyers from 2014, with a second generation from 2023. The BJ prefix itself is older: it stands for Beijing-Jeep, from the agreement with the American brand that shaped BAIC's early years. The rest of the range covers ordinary saloons and SUVs - the U5 Plus, X3, X7 and Mofang, with the EU8 executive saloon due in 2026.
The BJ40 is assembled outside China in several places, among them Algeria, Pakistan, Indonesia and Russia, and the same vehicle is sold under other badges in some markets: Innoson IVM G40 in Nigeria, Mobius 3 in Kenya, ICH-X K2 in Italy, Aras 3 in Iran and Santana Cajal in Spain. Those rebadged versions do not carry the Beijing name.
BAIC Motor, the listed company behind the brand and the two Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai ventures, reported revenue of CNY 164.0 billion for 2025.
The Beijing marque is sold by BAIC Motor Corporation Limited (Hong Kong 1958), BAIC Group's listed passenger-car arm, with the off-road BJ models coming from BAIC's off-road vehicle business.

Who owns Beijing?
Beijing Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission owns BAIC Group at 100%.
BAIC Group is a municipal state-owned enterprise held by the Beijing city government rather than by the central SASAC. The date the present holding structure took its current form was not verified for this entry.
BAIC Group controls Beijing since 2019.
The Beijing marque in its present form dates from 2019, when BAIC introduced a Beijing off-road sub-brand, and 2020, when it revived Beijing as its main passenger-car name in place of Senova. The cars are sold by BAIC Motor Corporation Limited, BAIC Group's Hong Kong listed arm; BAIC Group held 44.98% of BAIC Motor as of December 2016.
