Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle is the truck business at the root of the whole group: the Second Automobile Works at Shiyan was built to make trucks, and the plant is still the division's home.
The present company was created for the deal with AB Volvo. Volvo agreed in January 2013 to take 45% of the business and completed the purchase in January 2015 for RMB 5.5 billion; Dongfeng Motor Group holds the other 55%. This is AB Volvo, the Swedish truck and construction-equipment group, and not Volvo Cars, which belongs to Geely Holding - a distinction that trips up a lot of writing about Chinese trucks.
The range is led by the Tianlong heavy tractor units and Tianjin medium trucks, with specialised Changxing, Tuoxing and Jingcheng series and a growing set of electric and clean-energy models. The company's own site describes a domestic network of more than 870 service stations, 650 dealerships and 21,000 after-sales staff, and an international network of three knock-down assembly bases, 824 sales centres and 3,728 after-sales outlets. This entry lists only China as a confirmed market because no country-level export list was published in the sources cited.
Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. is 55%-held by Dongfeng Motor Group and 45% by AB Volvo, the Swedish truck and machinery group - which is a different company from Volvo Cars.
