IM Motors IM5: range, price, specs and where it is sold

Facts checked

The IM5 is the export name for the IM L6, the electric liftback saloon from IM Motors — the premium brand SAIC runs with Zhangjiang Hi-Tech and Alibaba. It was shown at the Geneva show in February 2024, went on sale in China that May, and reaches export markets through MG's dealer network, which is why it is badged MG IM5 in Europe and Thailand.

The car is 4,931 mm long on a 2,950 mm wheelbase. MG Australia sells three versions: a rear-drive Premium on a 400 V IGBT system rated 217 kW and 490 km WLTP; a rear-drive Platinum on an 800 V silicon-carbide system rated 300 kW and 655 km WLTP; and a dual-motor Performance rated 575 km WLTP with a quoted 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h. Chinese versions have been offered with lithium iron phosphate packs of 74-93.1 kWh and nickel-manganese-cobalt packs to 103.3 kWh, plus a 123.7 kWh semi-solid-state 'Lightyear' edition rated 1,002 km CLTC and supplied by Qingtao Energy.

Export launches ran Australia on 12 June 2025, Singapore on 25 September 2025 and Thailand on 24 March 2026, with Britain and Europe served through MG from 2025. Neither Euro NCAP nor a rating we could verify from ANCAP has been published for the IM5; MG Australia displays a five-star ANCAP mark on its own page.
