Sinotruk: owner, models, markets and what the name means

Facts checked United States status as of 4 September 2026

Sinotruk is the export name for the trucks of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, built in Jinan and several other Chinese cities. The oldest thread in the range is Huanghe, or Yellow River, the name on the JN150 of 1960, China's first domestically designed heavy truck.

The modern line has three tiers. HOWO is the mainstream heavy truck, the model most often seen on export markets and in construction fleets. Sitrak is the premium range, built on MAN technology licensed after the German company took a quarter of the Hong Kong listed arm in 2009. Huanghe now sits at the top as a long-distance flagship. Below them are light trucks under the HOWO and Haowan names, pickups, light buses and specialised vehicles.

Exports carry the business. Sinotruk sold 292,140 heavy trucks in 2025, of which 153,368 went abroad, and says its products have reached more than 150 countries. The strongest markets are in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia and Latin America. There is no United States presence.
