The U9 is a two-seat battery-electric supercar and the second model from Yangwang. It was introduced on 6 April 2023, went on sale in China on 25 February 2024 at CNY 1,680,000, and entered mass production that August. In October 2025 Yangwang raised the price by about 7 per cent to CNY 1,800,000, a move against the direction of pricing elsewhere in the group.
It uses the same e⁴ layout as the U8, with four motors of 240 kW each for a combined 960 kW, an 80 kWh Blade battery, an 800-volt architecture and 450 km of CLTC range. Its DiSus active suspension can lift individual corners far enough for the car to hop clear of the ground. Volumes are small: 88 cars were sold in 2024 and 104 in 2025.
Yangwang has made a series of speed claims for U9 derivatives. It said on 26 August 2025 that an engineering test car reached 472.41 km/h at the ATP test track in Germany on 8 August, driven by Marc Basseng. A further run of 496.22 km/h was reported in September 2025 for a higher-output U9 Xtreme rated at 2,220 kW, again at ATP Papenburg with the same driver. The speed figures themselves reached this record through trade press rather than a BYD document, though BYD's own global site carries a U9 Xtreme banner describing it as the fastest electric vehicle on earth, so the claim is the company's own. One account notes the September run was made in one direction only, which excludes it from formal record recognition.
