JAC is the main brand of Anhui's vehicle group, and it started with trucks. The Hefei works built the province's first 2.5-tonne truck in 1968 and a first batch of twenty in 1969, which were later badged JAC; light trucks such as the HF144A went into volume production in 1985.
The brand still leans commercial. It covers light and medium trucks, pickups, vans and bus chassis alongside passenger models — the Refine MPVs and SUVs, and the small electric cars sold under the JAC Yiwei name since 2023. Sehol, a sub-brand created with Volkswagen for electric models, is being wound down.
JAC has exported since 1990, when it shipped vehicles to Bolivia, and says it has since sent more than 800,000 vehicles to over 130 countries. It assembles from kits in Egypt, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Mexico, Iran and Brazil; the Mexican plant at Ciudad Sahagún has capacity above 25,000 vehicles a year.
Group sales were 592,499 vehicles in 2023 and 403,094 in 2024.
The brand belongs to the listed Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp., Ltd. (Shanghai, 600418), which is controlled by the unlisted holding company JAG. JAG is owned 50/50 by the Anhui provincial state-assets commission and Volkswagen (China).
