Volvo Cars S90: range, price, specs and where it is sold

The S90 is Volvo's large saloon, launched at the Detroit show in January 2016 on the SPA architecture. Torslanda in Sweden built it only briefly: assembly moved to Volvo's plant at Daqing in north-east China during 2016 and 2017, and since then Daqing has been the sole source of the car, in long-wheelbase form (5,083 mm long on a 3,060 mm wheelbase). Volvo's own press material lists Daqing among its six production plants alongside Gothenburg, Ghent, South Carolina, Chengdu and Taizhou.
That made the S90 the highest-profile Chinese-built car sold under a European badge in the United States, and it is also why it is no longer sold there. Volvo stopped importing the S90 as tariffs on Chinese-built vehicles rose; production for North America ended in late 2024 and the 2025 model year was the last. Volvo said it would concentrate the US range on the XC90, XC60 and XC40.
In China the S90 remains a flagship. The 2026 range on Volvo Cars China is plug-in hybrid only, quoted at 455 hp, 102 km of CLTC electric-only range and a starting price of CNY 499,900. Volvo also unveiled a four-seat S90 Excellence for the Chinese market in November 2016. Euro NCAP awarded the S90 and its V90 estate sibling five stars in 2017, and Volvo noted at the time that the pair were the first cars to score full marks in the autonomous emergency braking test for pedestrians.
