BYD Song Pro: range, price, specs and where it is sold

Facts checked

The Song Pro is a compact SUV that has been in production in China since July 2019 and is now sold only as a plug-in hybrid. The second generation, launched on 23 September 2024, uses BYD's fifth-generation Dual Mode system with Blade batteries of 12.9 or 18.3 kWh, 75 or 115 km of CLTC electric range and a combined figure of 1,360 to 1,400 km.

It carries three different names abroad, which is a common source of confusion. The United Kingdom and Australia sell it as the Sealion 5; Mexico keeps the Chinese name and calls it the Song Pro DM-i; Brazil sells it as the Song Pro DM-i Flex. The Brazilian car is significant on its own terms: launched in August 2026 and built at BYD's Camacari plant in Bahia, it was the company's first Brazil-built plug-in hybrid and runs on electricity, petrol or ethanol.

It should not be confused with the larger Song Plus, which is the car exported as the Seal U and the Sealion 6. BYD's Australian marketing describes the Sealion 5 as using Dual-Mode 4.0 Super Hybrid technology, while the Chinese launch material for the same car calls the system DM 5.0. This entry covers the car from its Chinese side; the export specification, prices and WLTP figures are held under Sealion 5.
