The ET5 is NIO's smallest sedan, a dual-motor battery-electric four-door built on the company's NT 2.0 electronics platform. It went on sale in China in September 2022, and an estate version, the ET5 Touring (ET5T in China), followed on 16 June 2023. Both bodies share the same 4,790 mm length and 2,888 mm wheelbase.
The car is offered with three battery packs — 75 kWh, 100 kWh and a 150 kWh semi-solid-state pack — and every pack is swappable. Buyers can either own the pack outright or rent it under NIO's Battery as a Service scheme, which removes the pack's cost from the purchase price in exchange for a monthly fee. A May 2025 update revised the range figures to 585 km, 740 km and 1,055 km on the CLTC cycle; NIO's German and Norwegian sites quote 590 km on the stricter WLTP cycle for the 100 kWh car.
In Europe the ET5 and ET5 Touring are sold in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark through NIO's own network, which includes battery-swap stations. Euro NCAP tested a 75 kWh left-hand-drive ET5 in 2023 and awarded five stars, with 96% for adult occupant protection.

- What is battery swapping on the NIO ET5?
- The ET5's battery pack is designed to be removed and replaced by an automated station rather than recharged in the car. NIO operates swap stations in China and in its European markets, and owners can either buy the pack with the car or rent it monthly under the Battery as a Service scheme.
- How far does a NIO ET5 go on a charge?
- NIO quotes 585 km with the 75 kWh pack, 740 km with the 100 kWh pack and 1,055 km with the 150 kWh semi-solid-state pack, all on China's CLTC cycle. On the stricter European WLTP cycle NIO's German site quotes 590 km for the 100 kWh car.
- Can you buy a NIO ET5 in the United States?
- No. NIO has never sold cars to the public in the United States; its markets are China plus Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.
- Is there an estate version of the ET5?
- Yes. The ET5 Touring, called the ET5T in China, was launched on 16 June 2023 and is sold in the same European markets as the saloon.
