Xiaomi Corporation is a Beijing consumer-electronics company, listed in Hong Kong under the code 1810, that founder Lei Jun started in 2010. It is included in this reference because of one part of its business: on 30 March 2021 it announced it would build cars, committing RMB 10 billion at the outset and about US$10 billion over ten years, with Lei Jun himself as chief executive of the car unit. Xiaomi Automobile Co., Ltd. (小米汽车有限公司) was established on 1 September 2021.
The car business moved unusually fast. Xiaomi signed for a plant in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone in November 2021, designed for 300,000 vehicles a year across two phases of 150,000. Xiaomi's 2025 annual results reported revenue of about RMB 106.1 billion from the smart electric vehicle and related businesses.
Everything Xiaomi has sold so far has been sold in mainland China. In September 2026 it signed memoranda of understanding with eight German dealer groups at IFA Berlin, saying it would begin European sales in 2027 and would draw on a research centre it runs in Munich.
