The S5 EV is MG's electric C-segment SUV, launched in China as the MG ES5 on 15 October 2024 and exported through 2025. It is 4,476 mm long on a 2,730 mm wheelbase and sits on the same Modular Scalable Platform as the first MG4, which MG markets in China as the Nebula architecture. Rear-wheel drive is standard.
Battery packs published for the car run 49.1 kWh, 50 kWh, 62.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate and 64 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt. MG Australia sells 49 kWh and 62 kWh versions at 125 kW and 150 kW, with 450 km WLTP for the larger pack and 30-80% DC charging quoted at under twenty minutes. Chinese figures are given on the CLTC cycle at 425-525 km, which is not comparable with WLTP.
Assembly is at SAIC's Ningde plant in Fujian, at Laem Chabang in Thailand, at Malacca in Malaysia through EPMB and at Cikarang in West Java through SGMW Motor Indonesia. Launches ran China in October 2024, Thailand in March 2025, Britain and Europe in April 2025, Australia on 30 April 2025 and Malaysia on 20 May 2025. Euro NCAP tested the car in 2025 and gave it five stars, with 90% for adult occupants, 82% for children, 82% for vulnerable road users and 78% for safety assist.
