Niu Technologies was founded in 2014 by Li Yinan, a former Huawei and Baidu engineer, and Token Yilin Hu, and listed on Nasdaq in 2018. Its products are electric two-wheelers: city scooters and mopeds, electric motorcycles, electric bicycles, kick-scooters and, since 2023, an electric dirt bike. Manufacturing is in Changzhou, Jiangsu; the head office is in Beijing.
The company's distinguishing choice at launch was lithium-ion batteries at a time when most Chinese electric scooters used lead-acid, together with a connected app and a design-led approach that made it a recognisable consumer brand rather than a commodity maker.
Volume is overwhelmingly Chinese. Niu sold 1,197,978 units in 2025, of which 1,112,021 were in China and 85,957 international. Revenue was RMB4,307.9 million, up 31.0%, and the net loss narrowed to RMB39.4 million. Outside China it sells through distributors in dozens of countries and through retailers including Best Buy in the United States and MediaMarkt in Europe. A group of Cayman entities led by Glory Achievement Fund reported 41.9% of the company in July 2026.
