Yutong Bus: the group, its brands and who controls it

Facts checked

Yutong builds buses and coaches in Zhengzhou, Henan. The works began in 1963 as a bus repair factory; the listed company was formed in 1993 and in March 1997 became the first Chinese bus maker to list in Shanghai.

Despite its size it is not a state enterprise. Zhengzhou's state assets bureau sold most of the Yutong Group in 2001 to a management vehicle led by Tang Yuxiang, who remains chairman. The unlisted Zhengzhou Yutong Group sits above the listed company.

Yutong has been described as the largest bus and coach maker in the world by volume since 2016, and by its own account holds more than 10% of the global market. It sold 49,518 vehicles in 2025 and says it has exported close to 130,000 buses to more than 100 countries and regions and sold over 210,000 new-energy buses in total. Recent deliveries include 400 electric buses to Pakistan, 372 to Chile and 100 to Greece in 2025, and fleets for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
