Hyptec: owner, models, markets and what the name means

Facts checked United States status as of 4 September 2026

Hyptec is the premium half of GAC's electric-car business, created by GAC Aion in September 2022 to sell above the mass-market Aion badge. It was called Hyper in English at first and renamed Hyptec in August 2024, a contraction of 'hyper' and 'technology', chosen with export in mind.

The brand opened with a statement car: the Hyper SSR, an electric sports car that entered production in October 2023. The line has since broadened to six models - the SSR, the GT saloon, the HT SUV, the HL full-size SUV, the A800 saloon and the S600 coupe SUV - all electric, some with range-extender versions.

Hyptec sells in China. No export market was confirmed for this entry, though GAC has said it renamed the brand partly to prepare for markets outside China.

Hyptec is the premium line of GAC Aion, so it sits under GAC Group through Aion rather than as a separate company.
