The Tank 300 is a short-wheelbase, ladder-frame off-roader — 4,760 mm long, 1,927 mm tall, on a 2,750 mm wheelbase — and the model that gave GWM's Tank brand its identity. It launched in China in 2020 under the Wey badge and moved to the new Tank brand in 2021. A longer second generation, the 300L, followed in 2026.
GWM Australia sells it with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a 2.4-litre turbodiesel, and a Hi4-T plug-in hybrid rated at 300 kW and 750 Nm with a 37.1 kWh battery and up to 115 km of electric-only running on the NEDC cycle. All versions have low-range gearing and locking differentials and tow 3,000 kg braked. A larger Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid with a 59.6 kWh battery and a 200 km WLTP range is offered in China.
Export began with Saudi Arabia in July 2022 and Australia in December 2022, followed by Thailand, the Philippines, South Africa, Mexico, Malaysia and Indonesia. ANCAP awarded the Tank 300 five stars in 2022. Australian driveaway prices started at A$47,990 for the Lux diesel on 4 September 2026.
