Deepal is Changan's mainstream electrified brand, launched in 2022 with the SL03, a liftback saloon offered as a battery-electric car, a range-extender and — in a small production run — a hydrogen fuel-cell version. The corporate entity behind it dates back to a Changan subsidiary formed in 2008; the brand as buyers know it began with the SL03, and the English name Deepal was announced in 2023.
The range now covers the L06 and L07 saloons and the S05, S07 and S09 SUVs, plus the G318, a boxy off-roader named after China Highway 318, the Sichuan–Tibet route. Most models are offered as both battery-electric and range-extended versions, the format Changan calls its dual-power platform.
Deepal grew quickly: 33,354 sales in 2022, 128,865 in 2023, 243,894 in 2024 and 325,000 in 2025. It is also Changan's main export brand for electrified cars, on sale in Thailand, Australia, Mexico, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Spain and Hong Kong among others.
Changan Automobile held 51% of the Deepal company at the end of 2022, having raised its stake from 40.66% during that year.
