It is a holding company rather than a single factory: its bus makers are Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry, founded in December 1988 and the source of the King Long brand; Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus; and the Suzhou business that sells under the Higer name. Nanjing Golden Dragon adds light commercial vehicles.

Control sits with the Fujian provincial state through Fujian Motor Industry Group, which bought 21.02% of the listed company in 2014 and has added shares since.
