King Long: the group, its brands and who controls it
Facts checked
- State-owned (provincial)
- SSE 600686
King Long is a Xiamen bus group listed in Shanghai. It is a holding company rather than a single factory: its bus makers are Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry, founded in December 1988 and the source of the King Long brand; Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus; and the Suzhou business that sells under the Higer name. Nanjing Golden Dragon adds light commercial vehicles.
Control sits with the Fujian provincial state through Fujian Motor Industry Group, which bought 21.02% of the listed company in 2014 and has added shares since. The manufacturing company behind the King Long brand has its own shareholders: the listed group's holding rose to 50% in 2018, with Xiamen's Haiyi Group and Taiwan's Sanyang Industry holding the rest.
The group builds city buses, coaches, school buses, light commercial vehicles and a large battery-electric range, from about 5 to 18 metres. Exports matter more to it than to most Chinese bus makers: in 2025 overseas vehicle revenue of CNY12.98 billion exceeded domestic revenue of CNY10.31 billion.
