Changan is the core brand of the Chongqing group of the same name and covers mainstream saloons, SUVs and MPVs. The first Changan-badged vehicles, Suzuki-licensed microvans, left the line on 15 November 1984, following a technical agreement with Suzuki signed earlier that year; the works behind them had been building military equipment since the 1930s and vehicles since 1959.
The modern range is built around the CS series of SUVs, the Eado and Lamore saloons and, since 2020, the Uni series — Uni-T, Uni-K, Uni-V — which carries the brand's more expressive design. In 2024 Changan discontinued its separate Oshan passenger-car brand and moved its models and dealers into the Changan brand.
Changan sells in 129 countries and regions according to the company's own 2026 figures, with plants in Thailand, Pakistan, Russia and Indonesia and design studios in Turin, Birmingham and Munich. It has said it intends to enter Europe, with European market entry planned for 2028. It does not sell in the United States.
The group as a whole — Changan plus Deepal, Avatr, Nevo and Kaicene — sold 2.913 million vehicles in 2025 and announced its 30 millionth vehicle that December.
