Volvo Cars EX30: range, price, specs and where it is sold
Facts checked
The EX30 is Volvo's smallest electric car, a four-metre-long battery-electric SUV built on Geely's SEA electric platform rather than a Volvo-designed architecture. Two battery sizes are offered, a 51 kWh pack and a 69 kWh pack, in single-motor rear-drive and twin-motor all-wheel-drive form; the most powerful version makes 315 kW. A raised Cross Country version joined the range in 2025.
Where it is built is the fact that has shaped the car's commercial story. Volvo said in a press release dated 26 October 2023 that EX30 production had started that autumn at Zhangjiakou in Hebei, China, and that it would add a second source at its Ghent plant in Belgium from 2025. European production began at Ghent in April 2025 after an investment reported at about EUR 200 million, roughly 350 new jobs, and the installation or replacement of 600 robots. China-built cars continue to serve China and other markets; Wikipedia also records assembly at Shah Alam in Malaysia.
Cars for the United States were moved to Ghent, but the tariff arithmetic still did not work. Volvo announced on 17 March 2026 that it would stop selling the EX30 in the US after the 2026 model year, with US-market production ending after summer 2026 and dealers able to order until 20 March 2026. The reasons given were the expiry of the USD 7,500 federal tax credit on 30 September 2025 and import tariffs that rose from 2.5 per cent to 25 per cent and then settled at 15 per cent in August 2025. The car remains on sale in Europe, China, Canada, Mexico and Australia.
