The ES6 is NIO's mid-size electric SUV. The first generation arrived in China in 2019; a second generation on the NT 2.0 platform replaced it in 2023, growing to 4,854 mm long on a 2,915 mm wheelbase. A facelift in 2025 brought a 15.6-inch landscape touchscreen and a wide head-up display shared with the ET9.
In Europe the same car is sold as the EL6. NIO renamed it after the Munich Regional Court ruled in January 2023 that Audi's trademarks on S6 and S8 were infringed by ES6 and ES8, on the reasoning that the added E reads as shorthand for 'electric'. The ET-prefixed saloons were not affected, so only the SUVs carry EL badges in Europe.
Like every NT 2.0 NIO, the ES6 takes swappable 75 kWh, 100 kWh and 150 kWh packs and can be bought with the battery included or rented separately under Battery as a Service. Euro NCAP tested a left-hand-drive EL6 in 2024 and awarded five stars, with 93% for adult occupant protection.

- How far does a NIO ES6 go on a charge?
- NIO's own figures on the CLTC cycle are up to 450 km with the 75 kWh pack, up to 570 km with the 100 kWh pack and 690 km with the 150 kWh pack.
- Can you swap the battery in a NIO ES6?
- Yes. The ES6 uses NIO's swappable pack design, so an automated station can exchange a depleted pack for a full one, and the pack can be rented rather than bought.
- Is the NIO ES6 sold in the United States?
