BMW is German. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is controlled by the Quandt family -- Stefan Quandt 27.7% and Susanne Klatten 22.5% -- and no Chinese entity holds a stake. BMW does build in China through BMW Brilliance, of which it has held 75% since February 2022, and one model came the other way: the first-generation iX3 was built only at Shenyang, from September 2020 to 2024, and sold in Europe. Its successor is built at Debrecen in Hungary.
