SWM is Chinese-owned. The Italian marque, founded in 1971 and wound up in 1984, was revived in 2014 with money from the Shineray Group of Chongqing, which owns it. The bikes are built at Biandronno near Varese, in the factory BMW sold when it moved Husqvarna production -- an Italian-built, Chinese-owned motorcycle.
