MG MG3

MG MG3: range, price, specs and where it is sold

Facts checked

The MG3 is MG's smallest car, a five-door B-segment hatchback. The third generation was shown in February 2024 and is the first MG3 built around a full hybrid: a 1.5-litre petrol engine works with a 100 kW electric motor and a 1.83 kWh pack, driving through a three-speed automatic. The combined figure differs by market: MG's European price list quotes 194 PS (143 kW), while MG Australia quotes 155 kW. A plain 1.5-litre petrol version making 80 kW is offered alongside it in most markets, and Europe added that petrol car in February 2025 after launching with the hybrid alone. The body measures 4,113 mm long on a 2,570 mm wheelbase.

Assembly is split. Cars for China-supplied markets come from SAIC's Nanjing plant (the former Nanjing Automobile site), while Thailand builds the MG3 at the SAIC Motor-CP joint-venture plant at Laem Chabang, which is also the source for parts of South-East Asia. The nameplate reached the Middle East in February 2024, Europe in March, Mexico in May, the Philippines in June, Australia in June and Thailand in July.

Euro NCAP tested the MG3 Hybrid as a left-hand-drive 1.5 HEV and published four stars, with 74% for adult occupants, 73% for children, 81% for vulnerable road users and 69% for safety assist. The third-generation car is not sold in China, where MG's own range is built around the MG4, MG5 and MG7.
