BYD Shark 6: range, price, specs and where it is sold
Facts checked
The Shark 6 is BYD's first pickup: a dual-cab, four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid built on what BYD calls its DMO, or Dual Mode Off-road, platform. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works with front and rear electric motors and a Blade lithium-iron-phosphate battery, giving a combined output of 321 kW in the standard car and 350 kW in the 2.0-litre Performance version sold in Australia. Braked towing capacity is 2,500 kg, rising to 3,500 kg on the Performance.
It is unusual among BYD models in that it launched abroad before China. BYD gave the car its world debut in Mexico on 14 May 2024, and it reached Brazil and Australia later that year; a Chinese regulatory filing appeared only in July 2026, listing production at Zhengzhou under the Fangchengbao brand. BYD has said pickups are regulated as light vans in China, which limits their appeal at home.
Market names differ. Australia and New Zealand call it the Shark 6; the United Kingdom and Mexico use Shark DMO; Brazil simply Shark. Published battery capacity also differs by market, with 29.6 kWh quoted for the Australian car and 32.2 kWh in BYD's own United Kingdom specification leaflet.
