The Envision went on sale in the United States in the summer of 2016, the first Chinese-built General Motors vehicle sold in America. GM asked for tariff relief and was refused on 29 May 2019, and absorbed the cost rather than raise the price; by 2025 the car carried a combined 47.5% tariff and fourth-quarter sales fell 60.9% year on year. In January 2026 GM said it would move production for the US market to Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas, in 2028.
